43 // My Annual Review
Hey and merry Christmas everyone!
It’s been a quiet week for me. I took a couple of days off, and am also celebrating Christmas now.
Besides that there was a little bit of bureaucracy to tackle.
I also sent out a couple of invites to Formable. If you feel like playing around with it in the next days, send me an email and I’ll get one along your way too!
Preparing for the End of the Year
Next week will be about reviewing 2022, and planning 2023. The annual review helps me zoom out. This is when I think about life in the broadest perspective.
I started doing it in 2015, so 2022 will be my 8th review.
I got the inspiration for doing so from Nathan Barry’s 2015 review.
My procedure goes something like this:
I first set up and modify the template I use for writing the review.
It covers topics like relationships, health, business, and travel. The goal is to recall all the important moments of the year, and think about whether I reached my goals and how that might influence what I want to do next year. Most interestingly though, looking at my year like that brings up many new thoughts.
Next up I read all my weekly journal entries—the weekly reviews I write every Sunday.
I then usually write for 4–10 hours and end up with a couple of pages, mostly full sentences.
If you do something similar, I’d love to hear how you do it, or which questions you ask yourself.
I’ll for sure also think about this newsletter when planning next year.
You’ll hear from me in 2023.
