In issue two of this newsletter I was already talking about whether I might want to build more of a lifestyle business or shoot for the stars. I have some new thoughts on why I want to go big.
Last Sunday I listened to an interview between Ali Abdaal and “Moral Philosopher Will MacAskill on What We Owe The Future”. Besides talking about interesting topics like why you might want to donate more, what our species is underinvesting in, and what might end our civilization, at the end, they talked about scaling businesses.
What I noted down is that, if you want to do as much good as possible and your business helps people—which every business should do—you should aim to grow as much as possible.
It’s mainly a difference in framing. I’m not building Formable for me, but for the world.
The podcast goes into a bit more detail there. The whole thing certainly gave me a bunch of motivation. I’d recommend it.
Updates
On the mundane aspect of updates, I’ve been polishing some things this week, mainly improving UI.
A worry I want to share with you
I’ve always told myself not to worry about the app’s performance too much. Whether loading the site takes a second or two shouldn’t matter too much to proof the concept. I could always improve that later.
Now I’m at a point though where some big pages take a while to load, which just isn’t very nice. A notes app should be low friction.
So I guess I should improve Formable on that front.
I will for now however stay on course and not worry about it too much for now. Once users tell me it’s an issue I can start tackling it.
Have a worry-free start into the week!
