24 // Tools for Thought as Operating Systems
I want to touch on this idea today:
What I’m building does have parallels to an OS. It of course isn’t so close to the hardware, so I wouldn’t use that name, but there are other similarities:
Eventually it will be a platform for other people to build new experiences on top.
It handles data: Instead of a file system, it has an itemized graph structure.
The aspect I’ve been working on this week: It needs some sort of view / window manager:
Being able to view multiple lists side by side was one of the first things I did, but later postponed it since it didn’t seem necessary for the first version.
From my personal usage, it’s become clear that it is very powerful, so I turned that feature back on.
I got it mostly working again, but next week I still have to make a more concrete plan of where to take this feature.
