16 // Sharing in Formable
Sundays are the perfect time to clean up some open tabs. One of them was Roam42 Privacy Mode Announcement, a video I got recommended this week, chatting about Formable’s permission system.
So today I again spent some time thinking about permissions. For Formable’s MVP everything will be single-player, but some permissions code is already in place. Here’s how it’s currently planned:
Formable Permissions
If you want to share part of your notes, you will be able to do so with the usual filter functionality. You could for example share everything that’s tagged as work and not as private with your team.
Coming back to that video: It talks about the problem of sharing your screen when showing someone else your notes in Roam. There might be portions you don’t want others to see.
It’s solved by simply blurring out any items that are linked to a certain other item, like “private”.
Formable can already do this in some way. You can filter out items through a query. But the filter is currently only applied to the root items (not to their mentions / references for example).
Permissions don’t have that problem. If you don’t have access you can’t see it. But filtering out any related blocks returned by a query could also make sense. It’s on my idea list now.
